Betty Ann Graves
This week’s Bugle Call salutes an Aggie wife, mom and grandmother who first came into the Aggie Family when she married her late Aggie husband, Dick Graves, Class of ’51.
Betty Ann quickly learned that graduation did not end Dick’s commitment to the school! Football season ticket holders since the mid 50's, an Aggie son and then six Aggie grandchildren later meant that College Station would always be a destination trip for the Graves’ family.
Another life’s passion for Betty Ann and Dick was the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where Dick served a tenure as president. To this day, Betty sees to it that gifts to Aggies from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo increase in both number and value every single year. Today that support totals more than $68 million for scholarships and graduate fellowships at Texas A&M.
After Dick passed away in 2008, Betty Ann continued the Aggie legacy that she and Dick had established, still serves as a lifetime committee member on the Rodeo, relishing her role to support scholarship opportunities.
As for those trips to College Station, they still occur every home game Saturday in the fall. Dick’s Aggie Ring dangles on her necklace, in its rightful place, next to Betty Ann, as she stands for their beloved Aggies.
