Richardson was awarded with the Construction Science Costructor Hall of Fame Award.
This week’s Bugle Call salutes an Aggie who has spent his whole life honoring those around him. John Richardson, class of 1968, has given his friends and family the opportunity to leave their mark at Texas A&M in a very unique way as his story illustrates core values of Loyalty and Selfless service.
Before receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Texas A&M, John established his own legacy here in Aggieland. He was involved in the Corps of Cadets and was a member of the E-2 Mascot Company when he met his friend and later roommate, Kevin Rinard ’68.
The two kept in touch when Kevin was sent to Vietnam after graduation. Kevin was later killed in action during the Vietnam war in 1971, leaving behind a daughter back home.
John swore at the time he would honor his friend in some way, and in 1996, he created the Kevin A. Rinard ’68 Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Construction Science. The scholarship is awarded to junior, senior or graduate level students in construction science, with preference being given to members of Company E-2. Those students who are recipients of this scholarship whose named after an Aggie who made the ultimate sacrifice and his Aggie buddy who readily answered “here” for his service.
John has also established scholarships in his name and his children’s names in a variety of different academic departments and has impacted the university in more ways than one. His commitment to bettering Texas A&M’s present and future is the ultimate example of Aggie loyalty.
