The legacy of supporting Texas A&M University through planned gifts dates back to one selfless Aggie: James “Cop” Forsyth, Class of 1912.

Dubbed the Texas A&M Foundation’s “father of planned giving,” Forsyth was one of the university’s earliest financial contributors. While coordinating with his classmates to establish the first class-sponsored President’s Endowed Scholarship, he initiated the idea of letting his classmates leave money in their wills to fund the scholarship.

In recognition of his contributions, the Foundation established the Forsyth Heritage Society, which later became known as Heritage Membership.

Today, Heritage Membership recognizes individuals and families who have committed a planned gift of any size to the Foundation. Through their generosity, Heritage Members follow in Forsyth’s footsteps by leaving a powerful legacy of support for future generations of Aggies.

Giving through a planned gift made sense. It fit our financial plan. We are big believers in the long-term, and we feel our gift will continue paying forward. We hope our scholarship will benefit students who love the university as much as we do.
